Keeping you connected to the life and ministry of
Concord Presbyterian Church!

Sunday, August 4, 2019
Rev. Sara Holben preaching
Luke 12:13-21

In Luke 12:13-21 … Jesus tells another one of his challenging parables.
A farmer has a good year and brings in a larger-than-usual crop. What should he do with it?
What would you do with a bumper crop?

Join us this Sunday at 10:30am as we welcome Rev. Sara Holben, recently-retired pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown, MD, to our pulpit. We will celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper and receive the offering for the Deacons' Fund.

Mission Committee "Living Waters"
Providing and looking for opportunities
to preserve and protect our watershed.

It’s HOT outside, so here are some suggestions for indoor water conservation:

Install a low flow or trickle valve shower head.
Take a five minute (or less) shower.
Turn off water while lathering your hands in the sink.
In the shower, turn water on to get wet; turn off to lather up; then turn back on to rinse off.
Place a large bucket in the shower to catch excess water and use this to water plants.
Turn water off while brushing teeth or shaving.
Plug the sink instead of running water to rinse your razor
Install a high-efficiency toilet.
Repair dripping faucets by replacing washers.

Our outstanding Chancel Choir sings regularly in Sunday services September - May. During the summer, they receive a well-deserved respite. We traditionally use this time to foster our own talented musicians with solo and small ensemble opportunities, while also welcoming some highly accomplished professional and aspiring young guest artists. It is our hope and belief that this enhances our ministry and worship experience. The Chancel Choir will resume weekly rehearsals and their regular role as worship music leaders in early September. Until then, enjoy our featured artists!

Epiphany House
Service Opportunity!

Epiphany House is a transitional housing program run by Friendship House. The program provides a secure, home-like environment for women ready to work hard on their issues through a rigorous & holistic program. The goal is to help the women re-establish themselves as independent, self-supporting members of our society able to assume their responsibilities to their families, co-workers, & friends.
Concord members Judy Hayes & Torill Drury have made & shared meals with Epiphany House residents on the 4th Friday of each month for a number of years. Now they have stepped down & we are hopeful there is someone in the congregation who will feel called to step up & continue this outreach. This can be as simple as picking up pizzas to share when time is short! If you are interested in this activity, please contact Dottie Harding.

With the end of apartheid in South Africa, Archbishop Desmond Tutu (Forest Whitaker) visits ex-security police officer Piet Blomfield (Eric Bana) in prison to assess his candidacy for amnesty. What the Archbishop hears from Blomfield causes him to ask of himself: are there some crimes that a "forgiving man of peace" cannot forgive? This tense and disturbing drama based on actual events poses very important questions for people today.

Free and open to the public.
