 January 26, 2020 - 10:30am
Rev. Kathie S. Pownall preaching
Matthew 4:12-23

And he said to them, " Follow me, and I will make you fish for people."

In advertisements for retreats this line often accompanies a poster of a solitary place: "Sometimes you have to withdraw from the world to find your place in it." Jesus' life took interesting turns and he often turned to solitary places to be restored and listen to God's call.
Once, while doing this along the shoreline of Galilee, he found fishermen and called them to ministry. The idea of casting nets for people may have come to Jesus' mind while he was on his walk.
This Sunday I encourage you find a way to balance the busyness of the world while you listen for God's call in its midst.

Pastor Steve will be gone until next month, recovering from double knee replacement surgery. He will return to the office on February 3 and to worship on February 9.

In his absence, Parish Associate Rev. Kathie Pownall will be providing pastoral care to our Concord family and can be reached by
email or at 302/373-7127. Kathie will also be preaching on Jan. 26 and Feb. 2.

February 6 Fundraiser for Friendship House

As our loving, supportive community, we invite you to an evening with Friendship House! Learn how we create a way home for those facing homelessness. The event is at Hagley Soda House, 298 Buck Road. Wilmington, DE 19807, and will include heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine, and beer, provided by Caffe Gelato. The event starts at 6:00pm and a short program will highlight our impact throughout New Castle County.

Tickets can be purchased online at  An Evening With Friendship House  or send a check for $90 per person payable to Friendship House to PO Box 1517, Wilmington DE 19899, indicating the names of the people attending.

Ministry through SocksPLUS Campaign

Concord and Friendship House have launched our SocksPLUS initiative to help collect socks and other essential items needed by the homeless. Socks are the item most requested by anyone living outside. We have a collection bin in the Narthex. Some items we are collecting include: new socks, gloves, hats, scarves, coats, blankets, towels & washcloths, back packs, gym bags, water bottles, toiletries, and hand sanitzer.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact John Barineau.
