"Voices from the Psalms: In Community" - Psalm 79
Rev. Kathie Pownall preaching

This Sunday we will consider the “lament” of a community. Last Sunday we examined Personal Lament. Psalm 79 is a Communal Psalm of Lament which expresses the anguish and all the feelings of people calling out to God - anger, grief, frustration - and even in the depths of despair, a belief that God is listening. The Psalms of Lament often express the question, “How long, God? How long will this last?” Each of us have things in our lives that we would like God to fix - right now. Circumstances have caused us to feel great loss and a sense of confusion, and we want “reasons” and “solutions.” How can the Communal Psalms of Lament help us deal with OUR anguish and that of our neighbors, our country, our world? What issues do we share with others that could be lifted up in a Communal Psalm of Lament? In these Psalms we are not crying out for ourselves, but for all humanity.
Join us for IN-PERSON WORSHIP on Sunday at 10:00am; doors open at 9:40am. We have developed guidelines for your safety, including social distancing, mask wearing, hand sanitizing, and collecting contact tracing information. Click here to read a complete list of these guidelines if you plan to attend.
For those who are not yet ready or able to attend our service in person, a live-streamed/recorded option is available on our website. To join us in WORSHIP ONLINE this Sunday, June 27, click on the picture above to go to our Concord website. Near the bottom of the home page, click on the same picture to connect with the worship video. The worship service will be available live at 10:00am Sunday morning or later in the day to view at your convenience.

We have all been apart far longer than anyone predicted in March 2020. It’s only been a few brief weeks of being in the sanctuary together, and my single greatest joy is seeing and welcoming worshipers back to Concord! If you are able to attend worship in person, please help Welcome and Assist others by serving as a Greeter and/or Usher. You arrive at 9:30am, and by about ten minutes after worship ends are out the door. Follow the web link below or call the Church Office and Margaret will help you find a morning that suits your schedule.

You’ll be amazed by the amount of joy it brings you and others!

Our weekly MUG & MUFFIN gathering will meet in Jessie's Room next Wednesday, June 30, at our usual 10:00am meeting time, led by Pastor Steve Clark. You can still connect via Zoom (same info as always, shown below) if you would prefer to join the conversation that way.

For those attending in person, there are still required protocols to follow:

  • Bring your mask. Unless all of those present are vaccinated and agree to go without masks, we will wear masks and practice social distancing during the gathering.
  • Bring your iPad, smartphone, laptop - whatever you generally use to connect from home. This will allow those joining via Zoom to see all the other participants.
  • If all those present are vaccinated and agree, participants may consume beverages they bring

well below what is required. Hospitalizations are going up and far outpacing the
number of donations we are receiving. Your help is urgently needed.
