Keeping you connected to the life and ministry of

Concord Presbyterian Church!

The Ascension by Peter Rogers

Seventh Sunday of Easter - Acts 1:1-12
May 29 @ 10:00am
Pastor Steve Clark preaching

For this Sunday, READ Acts 1:1-12 and REFLECT: As you read this text, what details stand out for you? What questions does it raise for you? What do you think Jesus was talking about when he referred to "the kingdom of God" (v3)? What do you think the disciples were imagining when they referred to Jesus restoring "the kingdom to Israel"? Imagine yourself walking with the disciples as they return to Jerusalem (v12); what would you want to ask them or say to them?
Join us for IN-PERSON WORSHIP on Sundays at 10:00am; doors open at 9:40am. We have developed guidelines for your safety, including mask wearing and social distancing. Click here to read a complete list of these guidelines if you plan to attend. For those who are not yet ready or able to attend our service in person, a live-streamed/ recorded option is available on our website.
To join us in WORSHIP ONLINE May 29, click on the picture above to go to our Concord website. Near the bottom of the home page, click on the same picture to connect with the worship video. The worship service will be available live at 10:00am Sunday morning or later in the day to view at your convenience.

Due to persistent problems with our Concord email provider, the Church and Preschool staff are switching to new email addresses (see list below).

Please update your contacts list and use these addresses for ALL future messages. (Our old email addresses will still be active for several weeks.) Thank you.

Don’t miss this special outdoor Memorial Day weekend event this Sunday, May 29, 7:00pm in the Concord Presbyterian Church parking lot.
Join together with your community in honoring those lost to war and violence, and to contemplate our role in building a more "peace-full" world. We’ll hear beautiful music, sing and reflect, and close with a community candle lighting.
Hope to see you there!
Matthew Pressley,
Minister of Music

Baby Shower for Our Afghan Family
Sunday, June 5 after worship

On Sunday, June 5 after church we will have a "baby shower" celebration for our Afghan family. Although our family will not be with us, it will give us a chance to celebrate their upcoming joy. Below is a SignUpGenius link that includes items the family will need. All the items are available at Target.

We are asking that you click on the check box on SignUpGenius if you wish to purchase an item so that we all know it is being purchased. You can then purchase it, and bring it UNWRAPPED to church on or before June 5. Or you can order it online through the baby registry and have it delivered to the church.
There are additional items for infants that might be nice, but we ask that you remember the family's storage space is very limited. There will be ongoing needs as their baby girl grows. If you wish to donate to a fund to purchase larger clothes or age-appropriate toys, please send your donation to the church with the memo "Baby Shower."  We will then help them purchase things at the appropriate time.
This is the link for the Sign-up Genius:

Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park

Concord Presbyterian Church has been a long-time friend and supporter of Friendship House. Building on successful Concord teams in previous years, we have formed the Concord Trekkers team in support of Friendship House in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. All the money we raise goes to the programs at Friendship House - programs that serve the homeless in New Castle County.
This year, the walk will return to in-person on Saturday, June 11th at Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park. It will be great fun to have thousands of walkers in colorful shirts walking around the Riverfront in support of their organizations and our community. Children and friendly dogs on leashes are welcome, too.
To join the fun please contact John Barineau at, or use the Friendship House HMW home page: If you are unable or unavailable to walk yourself but would still like to support Friendship House programs, please consider sponsoring one of the Concord Trekkers - John Barineau, Steve Clark, Judy Hayes, Marj Johnson, Nancy Tucker, or Barbara Wise - through the Friendship House HMW home page.

7:45am – Registration opens
8:30am – Opening ceremonies begin
9:00am – Walk begins. The full course is 5k/ 3 miles, but there are shorter routes for families with small children.

July 11-14

Dear Youth and Parents,
This summer Concord Church is again offering youth entering grade 6 and up the opportunity to serve our local community during a Mission-At-Home Week, July 11-14! We will be volunteering with Friendship House at the Delaware Clothing Bank, as well as one of their transitional housing sites. The youth and adult helpers will be sorting clothing donations and helping with yard work, as well as assisting with a variety of tasks. (Covid safety protocols are in place at each site, and we are required to abide by them.) Our friends at FH are excited to have us back and are looking forward to being with our group again after such a great experience last summer!
See below for a general schedule of the week:
Monday morning (10am-12:00pm):  Getting to know each other, team building, preparation for the week, setting our focus and intent on serving God by helping others
Tuesday -Thursday

  • Morning: Volunteer together at one of the sites listed above
  • Have lunch together (snacks and drinks provided by Concord Church) and debrief the experience at Concord Church, a park (such as Bellevue or Talley Day), or a pool
  • Afternoon options:  enjoy a movie, amenities at a park or pool, go tubing again??? 😉

On our work days (Tues-Thurs) we will meet at Concord at 8:30am then drive to our worksite together. We will volunteer from 9:00am-noon, then head to our afternoon destination for lunch and activities until 3:00pm.
We will need a commitment from those interested in participating by Friday, June 10. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. Friends are welcome!

Please RSVP to Christina at

Dear Concord Family,
I have come through the experience of Stan's service with good family support both from Lamars and from Concord. I truly appreciate that. We have received many cards, notes, flowers, calls and visits, and it has meant a lot to me. The service on Monday was warm and wonderful. We so appreciate the service planning and delivery of Edee and Matthew. Bob, John, Alan and Ron did a great job with the live stream. We received a lot of thanks for letting so many people be "almost in the room". Al coordinated the sanctuary and helped Dottie and Nancy with the lunch. And my special thanks to you Margaret for a terrific program. Much love to you all.

 Margot Lamar

EFFECTIVE Friday, May 20, 2022

The Session has adopted a policy of following the CDC guidelines for all building use based on the risk level for New Castle County.

This includes when the risk level is:

  • High:         Masks are required, and social distancing is encouraged.
  • Medium:   Masks are encouraged but not required, and social distancing is encouraged.
  • Low:          Masks are not required.

It is important that those who are showing symptoms—whether COVID or not—stay home no matter what the risk level so that we minimize the spread.

If you have tested positive, please inform anyone with whom who have been in close contact so that they can take appropriate action.

If you have tested positive or have had close contact, please review the CDC guidelines using this link for the Quarantine and Isolation Calculator.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation;

we all need to do our part to avoid spreading this virus.
